It is strongly recommended that you have snowshoes or microspikes for this adventure, but if you don’t have them, we can provide some with ADVANCED notice. Preregistration is not required but very appreciated. Please email shample@esf.edu to preregister and/or to request snowshoes or microspikes. Remember, it will be winter, and it will be cold! Dress appropriately (no cotton!) for the weather!

Fall Foliage Hike
The Adirondacks have long been known for its breathtaking fall foliage, attracting people from all over the Northeast. The bright greens of summer turn to fiery reds, yellows, and oranges of autumn giving the forests a beautiful new palette. What better place to experience these magnificent colors than from Goodnow Mountain fire tower. Learn about the forest’s seasonal changes on the 4-mile round trip hike, considered moderately challenging, that culminates in a spectacular 360-degree view of Rich Lake, Huntington Wildlife Forest, the High Peaks, and surrounding areas. Dress for the weather. Meet at Goodnow Mountain Trailhead
Loon Dive Fundraiser
Are you ready for some exciting news about the 2024 Rubber Loon Race season? We're thrilled to announce a brand-new event - THE RUBBER LOON DIVE!
In the past, our loon competitors have shown off their speed racing down the river. But this year, due to the loss of our starting and finish line bridges crossing the outlet of Rich Lake along the Sucker Brook Trail, we're switching things up and putting their diving skills to the test. We want to see which loon will take home the title of the best diver.
Sponsor a loon and you can be a winner! Join us, Saturday, September 21st at 11am, for the fun and launch your loon into the lake (or we can do it for you!) and see if they can land in one of the top three floating rings. It's going to be a splash!
Sponsors of the top loon finishers win a prize!
1st Place - $100
2nd Place – Rubber Loon
3rd Place – ESF Swag
Loons can be sponsored in person at the AIC, by using the QR code on the flyer below, or by going to the following link. https://www.esf.edu/aic/sponsor-a-loon.php
